EFFECTS OF CLIMATE ON DRESSING
St. Kabir students of Std I were studying about clothing of different states of India. To widen their horizons & add an international dimension to the theme, teachers gave them an opportunity to explore dresses of Countries like U.A.E., Russia, Cambodia, Singapore, Bhutan, U.S.A., Australia, Canada, Japan, Srilanka, and Magnolia.

To begin with, charts were collectively prepared by students & teachers showing
pictures of clothes of different countries and the climatic condition of that
particular country. This led to a discussion about variety in the material used }
for clothing. Students thus understood why particular materials are used
for clothing depending on typical climate prevalent in the place.

Students dressed up in traditional costumes of countries. They presented their understanding through a Fashion show which was included as a special attraction
during annual function (FUN IN SUN).Parents extended a helping hand to
teachers in preparation of costumes. In the school assembly, a few students
participated in a mono acting show with traditional costumes.  Photographs
of fashion show were put on school web site.

For a more authentic experience, teachers arranged for a touch-n-feel activity.
They showed different materials like cotton, silk, nylon, wool etc. to students
and made them feel each material for its texture. Through this students
correlated the dress material with climate.

Through these diverse interventions, students built up awareness about varying climatic conditions of different countries across the globe and understood its influence on dressing preferences.

LETS BE FRIENDS

St. Kabir teachers have established link with a school in Northern England, U.K. with the sole aim of setting up a sustainable partnership for exchange of ideas on areas of mutual interest.

Teachers began this beautiful journey by exploring the website of link school. They compiled relevant information into a powerpoint presentation & shared the same with students of Std V. This led the students to draw a comparison between infrastructures, timings, uniform; examinations etc of both schools & appreciate differences.

This was followed by students writing introductory email letters to their counterparts in Maltby. Their excitement knew no bounds when they received replies from their buddies sharing about themselves & their families.

Since both schools have different cultural backgrounds, it was but natural for them to share about festival celebrations like Janmashtami & Navratri.

To convey their total commitment towards this partnership, St Kabirians made friendship bookmarks & sent across hand written letters wherein they included pictures of themselves for their buddies.

Wishing that this lovely partnership leads to more meaningful exchange of information & strengthens the bond between children of different countries fostering the spirit of global citizenship.
