SCHOOL ETIQUETTES
Etiquette is the art of getting along with people w/o being rude or demanding. It is making people feel at ease
with you in social situations because they know you won't make thoughtless remarks .
It is the grease that makes life together possible
Rudeness can be interpreted in many facets of the social exchange we all daily go through.
If you are in a group and there is a new person there always make a point to remember their names and if they
are solo ask them to sit with you "so you can get to know them". Make them feel part of the group by not talking at
length about how things used to be or how we did it elsewhere or something that they know nothing about.
Rudeness can extend to children also. A little kid loves when an older person
shows that they are important
and their little views have validity.
Rudeness to the older people is especially prevalent. They do have lots to contribute to the situation.
Listen to them. Tell them if what they have to say is relevant don't let them show up expecting something and getting a put down .
Give credit to the people who were involved in what ever the situation is. If someone said or did something helpful
don't take the credit but verbally give them the credit in front of the group. The group thinks more of
you for this then if they thought it your idea in the first place.
Rudeness in the basic family unit at home is rampant. Extend to all family members the same respect that
you give your friends. Example" don't tell one of them to shut up or hush. Tell them
politely that you get the message and do it nicely.
Demanding your own way every time and all the time is very rude. Be open to other ideas and opinions until
they step on your morals. Then don't be rude about it just state your case in as short a time as possible and quickly move on.
In short..........do unto others as you would want them to do to you.
Here I would like to share a story with you…..
There was a boy named Raj. Since he was young he had a habbit of being late everywhere. He never valued time.
He used to get frequently punished because of coming late in school. As he grew up his habit continued.
The principal used to give him warnings, make him understand the importance of time and inculcate the importance of punctuality in him.
Time passed by and he grew up to be a very successful man. A day came when he was going to get the
biggest contract of his life. He prepared himself for this day. But continuing his habit, he reached the office some
10minutes late. When he reached, he came to know that, he did’nt get the contract. It was given to someone else.
He got a setback. But he asked for the reason, as he knew he was the best. The answer given to him was-“ If a person doesnot
value time, its hard to believe that he will value his work.”
It was now that he realized the importance of time. He thought, had he listened to his teachers and
his principals today he would have been the biggest and one of the richest businessmen.
